Help / Getting started

Ready to play in about ten minutes.

From a new account to a campaign your players can open, in six steps.

Alpha promise

Some options will become premium in the future, but we will not limit campaigns built before pricing is active. All campaigns built during alpha will always have their premium options for free.

  1. Create your account.

Sign up with your email. Getting started is free. Free tools like the NPC generator work without an account, but a campaign needs one so it is saved and yours.

  2. Create a campaign.

Give it a name and a short description, and choose your game system: D&D 5e 2014 or 2024, with more systems on the way. Creating a campaign is free. You are the GM, and everything you add starts hidden from your players until you choose to share it.

  3. Fill in your world.

Build it as you go, import the blank spreadsheet template, or open The Tales of Sherlock Bones, our example campaign, to see a finished one. Generators fill in NPCs, buildings and monsters in a click.

  4. Invite your players.

Copy your campaign's invite link from its Settings and send it to your table. Players are always free to join, but each needs an account. They can read what you share and add their own notes. Observers can read what is shared and nothing else.

  5. Share what they should know.

Use the Seen by menu on any city, location, faction, character, scene or note: only you, specific players, or everyone in the campaign. Whatever is new lights up for your players until they have seen it.

  6. Check it, then play.

Switch your role to a player to see exactly what they see, switch back, and run your first scene. Your roll log and encounter tools are there when you need them.
